Careful prenatal care is one of the bedrocks of our hospital foundation. Including new prenatal consultations as well as follow-ups, our team of nurse mid-wives and doctors see approximately 2000 expectant mothers per month.
Obstetrics & Gynecology
Our hospital was conceived and built largely to provide excellent obstetrical care and timely access to life-saving cesarean sections (c-section).
Today we welcome on average 9-10 newborn babies per day, 11% of whom are delivered by c-section. Our two obstetrician-gynecologists also perform a full range of gynecologic surgery.
Several years ago we converted an external hallway of our pediatric building into a neonatal intensive care unit fully equipped with 20 incubators, 2 warmers, bubble CPAP, and four neonatal ventilators. Our pediatric head nurse has received training in neonatal care and places umbilical catheters, administers surfactant, and manages the unit. Each month we admit more than 30 premature babies.
Our busy pediatric department performs approximately 500 consultations per month. we also admit close to 600 patients per month including newborns, premature infants, general pediatric patients, and pediatric surgical patients. We perform very specialized care including but not limited to the full range of pediatric surgery, malaria, malnutrition, neonatal sepsis, respiratory failure, sickle cell disease, diabetes, tuberculosis, HIV, and oncology.
We perform approximately 100 operations a month including ventro-peritoneal shunts for hydrocephalus, Spina bifida repair, cleft-lip and cleft palate repairs, endoscopy, thoracic procedures including esophageal atresia repair and diaphragmatic hernia repairs.
We also treat gastroschisis and omphalocele, Hirschsprung’s disease, imperforate anus, hypospadias, burns, and various orthopedic conditions.
We have a robust oncology program that treats numerous cancers including but not limited to retinoblastoma, Burkitt’s lymphoma, nephroblastoma, neuroblastoma, osteosarcoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma.
Our medical director is a PAACS-trained (Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons) general surgeon who treats a broad gamut of conditions from thyroid disease, gastro-intestinal disorders, prostate disease, and orthopedic conditions.
Our radiology is currently comprised of plain x-ray utilizing the latest generation of digital radiography panels and fluoroscopy. We also are adept at ultrasound and hope to have CT scanning and mammography in our new radiology department.
Our lab is well equipped to perform a large number of analyses. This includes chemistry, hematology, parasitology, blood gas, coagulation, and hormonology. With our new lab we are hoping to include microbiology as well as pathology.
We maintain a well-stocked pharmacy of essential medicines at competitive prices for our patients.
Our dental clinic has three chairs and two dental assistants who are skilled in extraction as well as cleanings and fillings. They are assisted by visiting dentists as well as a part-time local dentist.
